This event is for children with disabilities to participate in soapbox derby.   USW Local 979 has been sponsoring a car in this event for several years and is sponsoring a car this year as well.  For anyone who has or knows of a child with disabilities that may be interested - we are looking for a driver to represent the Steelworkers car.

Racer Eligibility:

-Must be between the ages of 7 and 18 on race day

-Must have a disability that would prevent them from participating in the All-American Soap Box Derby

-Must be cooperative when being loaded into the car and able to fit safely and comfortably with the co-pilot

-Must not weigh more than 185 lbs.

Thank you to ALL who donated to this years TOYS FOR TOTS campaign. A special shout out to the SAFETY DEPT, VETERANS COMMITTEE, and the Executive Board in making it another success. WE dropped off numerous boxes of Toys and a check for $8,000 to the MARINES.

Please join us on Sunday Nov 16th from 10a-1p for the Annual Toys for Tots Drop Off Day Event. Members can participate by donating a new, unwrapped toy or cash donation to the USW Local 979 Veterans Committee.

If you are unable to make the drop off day event, a collection bin will also be placed in the Union Hall lobby throughout November for members to participate.

USW Local 979 and Cleveland-Cliffs employees came together to donate 18,842 total pounds of food during our 2025 annual Souper Bowl campaign. Cash donations alone, $5,184 was raised through the online donations page.  The food bank will be able to turn that into 15,552 meals that will serve our neighbors in need in the Greater Cleveland area.
